Certified TERI Tips: Engaging Corporate Event Planning

Planning 2024 events with a new perspective

The 2019 model of corporate event planning is no longer relevant with a modern-day workforce. Time to start looking at new ways to engage your team during offsite corporate meetings, retreats, conferences and more. Building a people-focused workplace will establish pride and commitment. What better way to do so than to host people-focused events that truly represent your workforce. Check out my top three tips below to keep your employees engaged when hosting your 2024 offsite events.

Before we start, it’s important to identify the areas of your event that are most important and the purpose of planning your corporate event. Maybe it’s a keynote speaker, a surprise entertainer or an engaging breakout session. Once you have that identified, the following tips should help guide you through your planning and properly communicating those experiences for a successful and engaging event.

1. Survey your team and share the day's agenda before the event day

2. Event Apps

3. Breakouts featuring workshops and activities

a. As yourself: Is it important for you to consider your team's feedback on topics covered at your event?

b. Survey your employees on possible topics, food and beverage experiences and activities. Use those findings to build an ideal agenda and experience that’ll generate high attendance, excitement and engagement. Then share that agenda with your team ahead of time, giving them the power to choose what areas of the event to engage with.

a. Ask yourself: Are your employees tech savvy and if so, can your planning budget include an event application to keep employees engaged at your event?

b. Using an app to schedule your event agenda can give your employees and team the power to choose what they want to engage in as well as live event updates. You can send digital reminders to keep everyone on time and engaged.

c. Encourage attendees to take photos throughout the event and share their experiences. This is a great way to showcase your company culture and evaluate what areas of your event were enjoyed the most.

a. Ask yourself: What entertaining and engaging break outs are you considering to ‘break up’ the corporate messaging?

b. Offering physical activity, wellness inspired groups and projects infused with art are a great way to break up the corporate content of your event.

c. Some successful breakouts and workshops are morning stretch and yoga, an onsite service project or massage suite for the afternoon and an onsite cocktail hour and food truck gathering for sunset mingling. d. Don’t forget: Schedule your corporate agenda properly around meal breaks. Diving right back into a keynote speaker or session for an extended amount of time after a meal may result in less engagement and attention span. (restroom use, need to move around)

As you embark on planning your next corporate event in 2024, remember these top three strategies to ensure success. With careful planning, creativity, and attention to detail, you'll set the stage for an engaging and impactful gathering that leaves a lasting impression with your team.
