Santiago Thompson

Santiago Thompson sees all the program participants as truly unique and valuable members of society and sees the talents and attributes that they bring to the world.

We asked Santiago a few questions to get to know him better.

What is your role at TERI, and how long have you been here?

Craft Instructor, 7 years 4 months.

What's the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the clients grow in their own independence and individual skill sets, and knowing I play an important part in their development and daily lives.

Can you share a recent accomplishment, either at work or in your personal life?

Recently accepted a position as an Instructor in the Crafts department Completed a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in May 2023.

What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received?

What's one thing people don't know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

What's your favorite thing about your team or department? 

I am lucky to have very creative and supportive supervisor and co instructors around me. They support and help facilitate my creative process and the success of the clients I work with.

What is one thing that you have on your bucket list? 

Sing the song, "Eye of the Tiger" in a karaoke bar in Japan, dressed like one of the Blues Brothers.

Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that inspires you? 

Quote: "Our thoughts of yesterday create our today, our thoughts of today create our tomorrow. We are in control of and can create our own reality." Mantra: "Today I am going to create a world around me based on the things I value."

How do you stay motivated and maintain a positive attitude at work?

I remind myself, "it’s not about me" and I am here to help others. I put effort and energy into my own self-care.

Santiago has been a solid team member since June 2016. He has held several positions and is extremely knowledgeable regarding participants needs and interests. He demonstrates a positive attitude and is a fantastic mentor for new staff. Santiago is reliable and flexible when job duties are adjusted.
