Adelle Brophy

CERTIFIED TEACHER, THE LEARNING ACADEMY

"I love the little moments of success and happiness. It is so great to see those small skills or little victories and to see the positive changes with our students."

Passionate teacher and changemaker, Adelle Brophy has served to better the lives of our clients for most of her career.

We asked Adelle a few questions to get to know her better.

How long have you worked at TERI?

I began on April fool's day of 2017! I have been here for 5.5 years after starting as a one-to-one aide at TLA. Then I went back to school for my teaching credential and became one of the certified teachers here.

What is your favorite part of working with our clients and students at TERI?

I love the little moments of success and happiness. It is so great to see those small skills or little victories and to see the positive changes with our students. I have such a unique relationship with each one of my students and value our connections we have built over the years.

What is your proudest moment at TERI?

One of my proudest moments was when I was helping a student work on addition, and she had been struggling for so long to work on this goal. One day she got an answer correct all on her own and I looked at her and said "Wow, I am so proud of you." Her eyes got wide, and she looked at me and said "really?" and I said, "yes of course!" and she began beaming from ear to ear telling everyone how I was so proud of her. While you may think that a moment, I should be proud of would have to do with my own personal work, it is my students' work that makes me so proud each and every day.

Ready to make a difference in someone's life?

What's one thing people don't know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

One thing people don't know until they get to know me is that I have a 23-year-old brother with Down syndrome. He is my motivation and drive for being in this field. At 12 years old I began volunteering for ARC then got hired to work there at 16. Then all through college I did assisted living for adults with disabilities and then came to work for TERI after college. As long as I can remember I have worked in this industry and knew it was my life's passion. I truly can't imagine finding a better career than the one I have here, serving the amazing students and families I have encountered over the years.

What is one thing that you have on your bucket list?

One day I really want to visit Iceland and see the northern lights. They have always seemed so magical to me, and I would love to experience this natural wonder.
