We asked Joan a few questions to get to know her better.
What is your role at TERI, and how long have you been here?
I am an Instructional Aide at The Country School. I have been with Teri for 22 years. I first came to TERI and worked for several years at The Learning Academy. I later transferred to The Country School.
What's the most rewarding part of your job?
I really enjoy working with the clients and seeing all of the progress and accomplishments they make. It is a very rewarding feeling that has grown with me.
Can you share a recent accomplishment, either at work or in your personal life?
I am very proud of being able to have a work/life balance with Teri. I have been able to help my sister while she had to move from Arizona and adjust to California life while still maintaining the time and energy to come see our clients every day.
What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received?
I have always been told to never give up, have confidence in myself, and to never be afraid to ask for help or advice.
What's one thing people don't know about you that they would be surprised to find out?
I was very interested to work as a dental hygienist but had a career shift after meeting my neighbor's daughter who is autistic.
What's your favorite thing about your team or department?
The communication between all team members is strong and everyone is always there to help.
What is one thing that you have on your bucket list?
Would love to meet Temple Grandin for a one-to-one interview.
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that inspires you?
I joyfully share my light with others. I am blessed and grateful for another day to make a contribution to this world.
How do you stay motivated and maintain a positive attitude at work?
Being passionate about this field and knowing that I have made a difference in someone's life gives me such a feeling of fulfillment and joy. Spending time with my family and nourishing my own health is more than enough to keep me going.
