In
1980, TERI was one of 13 agencies in California awarded grant monies
to be part of a pilot project aimed at offering residential care
under the ICF/DD-H (Intermediate Care Facility/Developmentally Disabled-Habilitative)
Department of Health Services licensed model. We currently operate
9 homes in the North County area serving 54 adults and have opened
a 10th home for adolescent boys.
The
individuals living in our homes receive training and education in
conjunction with nursing support and individualized, professional
consultation to include dietetic, recreation, speech, physical and
occupational therapy directed toward assisting the individual to
function independently with as much self-determination as possible
and to prevent the regression or loss of current abilities and health
status. In a warm, homelike setting residents receive daily instruction
to facilitate the mastery of basic self-help, sensorimotor, communication,
self-advocacy, and behavior management skills. Independent living,
socialization/recreation skills and community access are also emphasized
to foster normalization and to provide individuals with the most
fulfilling lifestyle possible.
