The course is set and plans have been approved to build TERI's first “green” group home. Named for long time TERI staff member Susan Parham, who dedicated her life to our students and adults. Parham House will honor her legacy as a refuge for those requiring greater health accommodations and support, allowing them to remain living with their TERI family and enjoy the comforts of their own home despite increasing physical challenges.
But what exactly will it mean for these residents to live “green,” and why do we believe it is important? Conserving resources demonstrates responsibility to our community, the community we share. By reducing waterand energy use, preserving and protecting valuable water and land sources, reducing waste and eliminating pollutants, we can all enjoy living in an environment of sustainable beauty, comfort, and efficiency.
Living green also means our adults and students will learn the value of becoming an environmentally conscious role model to the community at large. When we volunteer for community clean-ups, or share strategies and commitments with our neighbors, we show that everyone, regardless of abilities or disabilies, can be empowered to do what benefits all of us.
