Helping Students Realize Their Potential

TERI’s Country School serves students in the San Diego, California area with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and other forms of mild to moderate disabilities affecting learning and social skills. The Country School offers children an alternative path to their final destination - a safe haven where students can regain self worth and create a bright future filled with endless possibilities.
The Country School’s team of professionals is committed to the success of each student to reach his or her full potential. Activities focus on strategies and skills that help students both academically and socially. The school also serves as a transition site for students from TERI’s Learning Academy who no longer require intensive levels of educational and behavioral support and benefit from a safe, personalized, remedial setting prior to, or in lieu of, reintegration at a public school campus.
About Our Program
Teachers work together with classroom aides, a speech and language pathologist, and an occupational therapist to provide a seamless and integrated program in a teacher to student ratio of 1:9 to balance individualized support in the classroom as well as peer interaction. The Country School includes elementary, middle school, high school, and practical skills classes in 4 separate classrooms serving 3rd-12th graders.

Students benefit from a social-cognitive approach for social skills, which is integrated throughout the school day. Improved “social thinking” skills help students become better communicators and ultimately help them have more successful relationships.
The Country School is a diploma granting educational institution licensed by the State of California and also serves students receiving certificates of completion. In operation since 1978, The Country School joined TERI’s portfolio of services in August 2001.
About Our Students
Students come to The Country School ready and willing to learn. All they need is a small and highly structured setting where individual needs can be met. They arrive with labels, often lacking the skills and strategies to succeed and progress academically and socially. Our students require a small class size, individual attention, and the support of professional who believe in them and their abilities.

Country School Principal
Shane Hamilton started with the Country School as a teacher in the Elementary classroom for four years. Shane received her Clear Multiple Subject Credential in 2000. Once she was hired by TERI as a one-on-one aide, she discovered her new passion was in Special Education. So she went back to school to get her credentials. Shane now has her Moderate/Severe Education Specialist Instructional Credential and her Masters of Science in Special Education.
Shane has learned so much from working with her students and wonderful families. She believes that every student has the right to a valuable and rewarding education. She also feels it is our duty as educators to provide students with tools to achieve this. Shane loves her job and looks forward to coming to school every day!
