The
Center for Art & Adult Education is designed to serve 200 individuals
over the age of 22 who need assistance and support in learning basic
life skills, vocational skills, and behavior management. This program
meets the needs of a wide range of adults, to include those who
are multi-handicapped; deaf/blind/mentally retarded; dual diagnosed;
and senior citizens. Our curriculum is as varied as our population
and includes both classroom
and community training.
A
wonderful part of our services incorporates volunteers with no experience
required. Some of the volunteer opportunities currently available
are:
- Artists:
We are currently in the process of setting up an
art room and could use help in structuring the program, purchasing
supplies and teaching staff and clients.
- Can
you sing or dance or put on a magic show: We have a ready audience
who would love to applaud your efforts.
- Can
you adopt a class (8-10 people) and host a class party or a picnic
in the park or maybe just bake cookies for them once a month.
- Gardeners:
We need experienced gardeners who can give advice and/or teach
us about gardening.
To
volunteer or for more information contact Teresa Martin at 760/721-1706
or Terry Ehrhardt at 760/722-5574.
