Temple
Grandin, Ph.D.: Dr. Grandin in an internationally
known and respected livestock equipment designer and woman with
autism. She is an active speaker around the world on autism
and the author of two books, Emergence: Labeled Autistic,
and Thinking in Pictures. She has also produced numerous
videos that offer insight into living successfully with a diagnosis
of autism. In addition to her career designing livestock handling
systems and teaching Animal Science at Colorado State University,
Dr. Grandin has helped thousands of parents and professionals understand
how to teach and support children and adults with autism/PDD/Asperger's
Syndrome.
Kenneth
Lyons Jones, M.D.: Dr. Jones is the Chief
of the Division of Dysmorphology/Teratology at the Department of
Pediatrics at UCSD, and Medical Director of CTIS Pregnancy Risk
Information. In these activities he has been involved in research,
teaching, clinical work, and University and public service.
Dr. Jones has authored over 400 publications in scientific journals
as well as several books. He is considered to be the the "Father"
of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) since he was one of two doctors
at the University of Washington who first identified FAS in the
United States in 1973.
Aubyn
Stahmer, Ph.D.: Dr. Stahmer is a Psychologist
and the Clinical Coordinator for the Integrated Toddler Program
for Children With Autism at Children's Hospital, San Diego.
She is a research scientist who examines practice patterns for children
with autism in community settings and is affiliated with the Child
and Adolescent Services Research Center, also at Children's Hospital.
Dr. Stahmer has conducted extensive research in the areas of challenging
behavior, language acquisition, and teaching symbolic play to children
who have autism and other severe developmental disabilities.
She is widely published and a frequent presenter at annual professional
meetings in the field of services to children with developmental
disabilities/autism.
Martin
T. Stein, M.D.: Dr. Stein is a Professor
of Clinical Pediatrics at the UCSD School of Medicine and also maintains
a clinical practice at UCSD Medical Center. While training
at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, Dr.
Stein and his colleagues founded a residency program in Community
and Social Pediatrics - the first of its kind. He was the
first general full-time pediatrician to join the faculty at UCSD,
and his book, Encounters With Children: Pediatric Behavior
and Development, is a standard text for training pediatric
and family medicine residents in behavioral and developmental pediatrics.
In 2003, Dr. Stein was awarded the UCSD Humanism in Medicine Award.
Doris
Trauner, M.D.: Dr. Trauner specializes
in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Pediatrics at UCSD and Children's
Hospital, San Diego, and maintains both a research department and
a clinical practice at these institutions. She is concerned
with the physical, emotional, and social health of children and
in researching biological and environmental influences on the development
of children. At this time, her research focus is on the development
of specific cognitive skills in children after early brain damage
and on the impact on cognitive developments of insults to the nervous
system. Dr. Trauner has written and lectured extensively on
autism and other developmental disabilities, and is currently the
principle investigator for three National Institutes of Health research
grants as well as the Chair for the Department of Pediatric Neurology
at UCSD Medical Center.
Paul
Alan Dores, Ph.D.: Dr. Dores is a Licensed
Psychologist in private practice in the City of San Diego. His practice
specializes in behavioral consultation, evaluation and training
in developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injury, with an
emphasis on the assessment and treatment of severe behavior problems.
He has worked with individuals with behavior problems in home, institutional,
residential, educational and psychiatric settings for the past 25
years, to include work at the UCLA Autism Program, under the supervision
of Dr. Ivar Lovaas. In addition to his publications in the areas
of language acquisition in autism and the treatment of severe behavior
problems, Dr. Dores is a frequent presenter at professional workshops,
conferences and training seminars.
